Attorney, Steven E. Shumer, is a resident of Long Island, who has lived, studied and practiced in the Long Island area for over twenty five years. He has devoted his legal practice to divorce, divorce mediation and family law and has established a reputation as a knowledgeable advocate for his clients who is compassionate, attentive and available with his first goal always being the settlement of a case rather than litigation. Mr. Shumer also has a different philosophy about the divorce mediation process than many other attorneys and certified mediators. Mr. Shumer believes that open communication, at all times, is of paramount concern but also understands that with the aid of today’s technology, numerous in-person, in-office meetings can be minimized, thereby allowing the parties to take less time off of work, and have less of their personal time imposed upon by the divorce mediation process. Mr. Shumer graduated from Brandeis University (cum laude), and then received his law degree from Hofstra University School of Law, where he was a member of the Hofstra Labor Law Journal. Mr. Shumer is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association and was admitted to the Bars of the State of New York and Connecticut, ultimately settling his practice within Nassau County, Suffolk County, Queens County and the surrounding areas. Mr. Shumer has authored a monthly legal column that appeared in over 25 local newspapers across Long Island and has participated in lectures to educate the public on matters involving divorce and family law. He lives on Long Island with his wife and 2 children.
